Venus sign calculator
Find your Venus sign
Venus moves slowly, so your birth date is usually enough. A time and place settle the rare day it changed sign.
The short answer
Your Venus sign is the zodiac sign Venus was in when you were born, and astrology reads it as your style in love, attraction and pleasure. Venus moves slowly, so your birth date is usually enough to find it. Your Venus sign is always your sun sign or within two signs of it.
What is a Venus sign?
Venus is the planet of love, beauty, pleasure and value in astrology. Its sign in your birth chart describes what attracts you, how you show affection, what you find beautiful and what makes you feel valued. Where your sun sign is who you are, your Venus sign is what you are drawn to and how you go about getting it.
That makes it one of the most useful placements for relationships. A Venus in Cancer wants care and emotional safety. A Venus in Gemini wants banter and fresh ideas. Two people can share a sun sign and look for completely different things in love because their Venus signs differ.
What is my Venus sign? Why it is always close to your Sun
From Earth, Venus never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun, because its orbit lies inside ours. In zodiac terms that means your Venus sign is always your sun sign or one of the two signs on either side of it. A Leo, for example, can only have Venus in Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo or Libra.
Venus also moves slowly, usually spending about a month in a sign, so your birth date is nearly always enough. On the few days Venus changed sign, the calculator shows both possible signs with the time of the change. Adding your birth time and place settles it.

Start my daily horoscopeVenus retrograde and long Venus seasons
About every 19 months Venus appears to move backward through the zodiac for around six weeks, a period astrologers call Venus retrograde. Around a retrograde, Venus can stay in one sign for up to four months, so many people born in the same season share a Venus sign. Astrologers say a natal Venus that was retrograde at birth tends to take love inward and reassess it, though that is one detail among many in a chart.
Venus signs by element
The element of your Venus sign is a shorthand for your love language in astrology:
- Fire Venus (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): loves boldly and enthusiastically, enjoys the chase, wants passion and fun.
- Earth Venus (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn): loves through loyalty, touch and practical care, wants stability and quality.
- Air Venus (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): loves through conversation and ideas, wants a friend and an equal.
- Water Venus (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces): loves deeply and emotionally, wants intimacy and soul connection.
Venus in each sign: what every Venus sign means
Here is the traditional reading of each Venus sign, as a first sketch of how you love and what you value. Check it against your own history before you believe it.
| Venus sign | What it means |
|---|---|
| Venus in Aries | Love is direct and fast. You enjoy the chase, say what you want and cool quickly if a partner plays games or takes too long to answer. |
| Venus in Taurus | Venus is at home here. You love through touch, food, loyalty and slow, sure commitment, and you value what lasts. |
| Venus in Gemini | Attraction starts in the mind. Banter, curiosity and new ideas keep your affection alive, and a partner who is also a friend matters most. |
| Venus in Cancer | You love by caring for someone. Emotional safety, a shared home and remembered small things count for more than grand gestures. |
| Venus in Leo | You love generously and want to be adored back. Romance, praise, loyalty and a partner who is proud of you are your love language. |
| Venus in Virgo | You show love through small, practical acts: fixing things, remembering details, turning up. Tradition rates Venus uneasy here, so you hold love to high standards, your own included. |
| Venus in Libra | Venus is at home here. You are drawn to beauty, fairness and partnership, flourish as half of a pair and dislike open conflict. |
| Venus in Scorpio | Love is all in or not at all. You want depth, honesty and loyalty, and light romance holds little interest. |
| Venus in Sagittarius | You fall for people who widen your world. Shared adventures, honesty and freedom keep you in love, and feeling possessed ends it. |
| Venus in Capricorn | You take love seriously and build it slowly. Commitment, respect and shared long term plans are what make you feel secure. |
| Venus in Aquarius | You love as a friend first and want space to stay yourself. Unusual connections and shared ideals suit you better than a script. |
| Venus in Pisces | Venus is exalted here, so love is tender, imaginative and generous. You see the best in people, sometimes more than is there. |
Where Venus is strongest
Traditional astrology says each planet works more easily in some signs than others. Venus rules Taurus and Libra, so it is at home there: sensual and loyal in Taurus, romantic and partnership minded in Libra. It is exalted, at its most idealistic, in Pisces. It is said to be in detriment in Aries and Scorpio, where its gentle nature meets Mars energy, and in fall in Virgo, where love can turn critical. These are not good or bad placements, only different ways of loving that come with their own lessons.
Using your Venus sign in compatibility
When astrologers compare two charts, Venus is one of the first planets they check, along with Mars and the Moon. One partner's Venus in harmony with the other's Mars is a classic sign of attraction, while two Venus signs in the same element often share tastes and ideas of romance. The compatibility guides linked at the end of this page go into each sign pair in more depth.
How this Venus sign calculator works
The calculator works out where Venus stood against the tropical zodiac on your birth date, using the same published astronomical algorithms as Soulether's free birth chart and the moon sign calculator. Because Venus moves slowly, a date is nearly always enough. On the rare day it changed sign, the calculator checks the whole day and shows both signs with the time of the change, and a birth time and place settle it.
Everything runs in your browser, and the calculation itself sends your birth details nowhere. They go into the page address, so you can bookmark or share your result.

Start my daily horoscopeQuestions people ask
Is my Venus sign the same as my sun sign?
Often. Because Venus stays close to the Sun, many people have Venus in their own sun sign, and everyone else has it one or two signs before or after.
What does my Venus sign say about attraction?
It describes what draws you to someone and how you like to be loved: the qualities that feel romantic to you, how you flirt, and what you need to feel appreciated in a relationship.
Do I need my birth time for my Venus sign?
Usually not. Venus moves at most about a degree and a quarter a day, so the date is enough on all but the few days it changed sign. On those days the calculator shows both options.
Which Venus sign is the most attractive?
No Venus sign is more attractive than another. Tradition says Venus works most easily in Taurus, Libra and Pisces, which shapes style and charm, not looks. Attraction in astrology is about fit: a Venus that matches what the other person's chart wants.
What are my big 3 signs?
Your sun, moon and rising signs. Add your birth place here and the result card shows your moon sign beside your sun, and add your birth time for the rising sign too. The rising sign calculator explains all three in depth.
What is the difference between Venus and Mars in a chart?
In astrology Venus describes how you attract, receive and enjoy love, while Mars describes how you pursue and assert desire. Reading the two together gives a fuller picture of romance.
