The best astrology app depends on what you want from it

Updated October 10, 2026 · How we write these pages

The short answer

There is no single best astrology app. TimePassages and Time Nomad suit detailed charts. Co-Star and CHANI suit a daily horoscope. The Pattern goes deepest on relationships. Nebula and Sanctuary connect you with paid live readers. Soulether, which we make, writes horoscopes and tarot readings with AI from your own birth chart.

How we compared these astrology apps

Every fact here comes from the app's own App Store or Google Play listing or its official website, checked on Oct 9, 2026. A tick in the table means the listing says the app offers it. A dot means we did not find it there, not that we tested the app and proved it missing. We compared seven things: what the free version includes, chart depth, the daily horoscope, compatibility, live readers, platforms and privacy.

We left out star ratings, download counts and prices on purpose. They change week to week and by country, and we would rather show nothing than a number we cannot stand behind. One more thing you should know: Soulether is our own app. It sits in the table under the same rules as the others, marked as ours, and this page says where it is the wrong pick.

The 8 astrology apps, one by one

What each app is, who it suits and the catch, in the order of the table above.

  • Co-Star: a social astrology app with short daily notes from your full chart, drawn from NASA data, written by human astrologers working with AI. It suits people who like a blunt daily nudge and comparing charts with friends. The catch: the notes are brief, and questions and love reports are paid.
  • The Pattern: long personality profiles and Bonds, which read how your chart meets someone else's. It suits people who want to understand themselves and a relationship in depth. The catch: its listing offers personal updates rather than a daily horoscope, and timing cycles sit behind its Go Deeper+ plan.
  • CHANI: a daily horoscope, the Moon's phase and sign, a seven-day forecast and a weekly podcast, in a warm voice. It suits a daily ritual. The catch: full chart readings, rituals and personal transits are paid.
  • TimePassages: a technical chart tool from desktop astrology maker AstroGraph Software, on iOS, Android and the web. It suits students of astrology who want transits and progressions. The catch: free covers the big three and a basic analysis; the detailed reports are paid.
  • Time Nomad: precise natal, transit and progressed charts, tropical or sidereal, calculated on the phone with no internet. It suits people who want a chart workbench. The catch: a paid download, iPhone and iPad only, and synastry and some other modules are paid add-ons inside the app.
  • Nebula: horoscopes and free tools such as a birth chart and a palm scanner, built around paid chat with astrologers, tarot readers and palmists. It suits people who want to talk to someone. The catch: the live chat is where the cost is.
  • Sanctuary: daily to yearly horoscopes plus live chat and voice readings, on iOS and Android. It suits people who want a human on the line. The catch: readings are billed by the minute after an intro session.
  • Soulether (ours): a web app that writes a daily horoscope and tarot readings with AI from your own birth chart and the day's calculated sky. It suits people who want astrology and tarot together, written for them. The catch: no live readers and no advanced chart tools.

Which astrology app is right for you?

If you only read one part of this page, read this. Pick by the one thing you want most.

  • A detailed birth chart: TimePassages, or Time Nomad on an iPhone.
  • A daily horoscope: Co-Star for short and blunt, CHANI for warm and seasonal.
  • Love and compatibility: The Pattern.
  • A live astrologer or reader: Nebula or Sanctuary, with a budget set first.
  • Tarot and astrology together, from your own chart: Soulether.
  • Just your chart, once, without an app: the free birth chart on this site.

What the free version of each astrology app includes

The free tier is where these apps really differ, so it gets its own table. Each line paraphrases the app's own listing.

Best astrology app for a birth chart

If you care about the chart itself, pick a tool built for technical astrology. TimePassages, from desktop astrology maker AstroGraph Software, offers natal, transit, progressed and comparison charts on iOS, Android and the web, and its free dashboard shows your big three with a basic analysis. Time Nomad goes further on precision: natal and progressed charts, transits for any day, tropical or sidereal zodiac, and every calculation runs on the phone with no internet. It is iPhone and iPad only and a paid download, and synastry and some other modules are paid add-ons inside the app.

Co-Star and CHANI show a birth chart with plainer explanations, which suits someone who wants to understand their placements rather than study aspect grids. If you only want your chart once, without installing anything, the free birth chart on this site calculates the whole thing from your date, time and place, with no signup.

Best horoscope app for a daily horoscope

A horoscope app is the lighter end of astrology apps: a short read each morning rather than a chart to study. For a daily horoscope app the choice mostly comes down to voice. Co-Star sends short, blunt daily notes and push notifications from your full chart; its listing says it uses NASA data for planetary positions and pairs human astrologers with AI. CHANI is warmer: a daily horoscope, the Moon's phase and sign, a seven-day forecast and a weekly podcast, much of it free. Sanctuary covers daily through yearly horoscopes next to its live readings.

Soulether members get a morning horoscope written by AI from their own chart and that day's calculated sky, with a tarot card for a question they set. Whichever you pick, choose the voice you will still want to read in a month, because a daily horoscope is a habit more than a feature.

Best astrology app for relationships and compatibility

The Pattern leans hardest into relationships. Its Bonds feature reads how two charts fit, and its profiles read like long personality write-ups rather than horoscopes. Co-Star lets you add friends and compare charts for free, with fuller love reports paid. TimePassages draws formal comparison charts for people who want the technical view, and Time Nomad sells synastry as a paid add-on inside the app.

Soulether's compatibility reading is written for one person you add, from both birth charts, and sits next to its tarot readings. For a quick look at two signs first, the compatibility pages on this site cover every sign pairing for free.

Astrology apps with live astrologers

Nebula and Sanctuary are built around paid sessions with people. Nebula's listing describes chat with astrologers, tarot readers and palmists; Sanctuary's offers live chat and voice readings, billed by the minute after an introductory session. Check the per-minute rate before you start and decide in advance how long you will stay, because time on a live chat passes fast.

Bring what a chart needs: your birth date, place and, if you can find it, your exact time. A human astrologer is as limited by a guessed birth time as software is. Ask one specific question, and ask which parts of the answer rest on your chart and which are the reader's own judgment.

Best astrology app for beginners

Start with an app that explains as it goes. CHANI and Co-Star both describe placements in plain words, and The Pattern writes its profiles as plain prose rather than chart terms. Enter your birth time and place if you have them, learn your Sun, Moon and rising sign first, and leave aspects and houses for later. Move to TimePassages or Time Nomad once you want to see the chart itself.

What "free" means in an astrology app

Nearly every astrology app says free somewhere, and it means one of four things. Knowing which saves a surprise on your card statement.

  • Fully free: the core is free with no paid plan, usually supported by something else (a book, a shop, a desktop product).
  • Free with ads: everything works, with ads between screens.
  • Free download with a paywall: the daily horoscope and chart basics are free, and depth (full readings, transits, reports, more people) is a subscription. Co-Star, The Pattern and CHANI work like this.
  • A free hook for paid chat: free tools and horoscopes, with live readers charged per minute. Nebula and Sanctuary work like this.

Best free astrology app

For free, CHANI gives the most daily content without paying, and Co-Star the most social features. If you want everything free, combine tools: a free birth chart calculator for the chart, one app for daily notes, and free sign and compatibility guides like the ones on this site. Pay only when you keep wanting more of one specific thing.

Which is the most accurate astrology app?

For planetary positions, the serious apps agree to a tiny fraction of a degree, because they draw on the same astronomy. When two apps disagree, the cause is almost always the input or a setting: a birth time off by twenty minutes, a missing time zone or daylight saving rule, or a different house system, which can move planets between houses. Near the edge of a sign, a few minutes of birth time can even change your rising sign.

Accuracy of interpretation is another matter. No app can show its readings predict your life better than another's, and you should be wary of any that claims to. In practice, the most accurate astrology app is one that gets your chart right and says plainly what it cannot know.

Best astrology app, according to Reddit, and why answers differ

Ask for the best astrology app in an astrology forum and the answers split, because people want different things. Those who study charts tend to recommend technical tools and free chart websites such as Astrodienst's astro.com, and are often critical of apps that hide the chart behind short messages. People who want a daily nudge recommend whichever voice they enjoy, and tone is personal: one reader's witty is another's harsh.

Two more things shape the threads. Paywalls change, so a recommendation from two years ago may describe a free tier that no longer exists. And opinions on AI are strong, which is why the AI column in our table only marks what an app's own listing says.

Privacy: what an astrology app knows about you

Your birth date, time and place together come close to identifying you, and many apps also see your contacts, location and the people you add. Read the privacy policy before you sign up, check whether you can delete your account and its data, and think twice before letting an app read your contacts to find friends.

Soulether asks only for the birth details a chart needs and the questions you choose to ask. They are stored to write your readings, and nobody at Soulether reads your questions to answer you.

Where Soulether fits, and where it does not

Soulether is a web app: it runs in your phone's browser, with no store download. It reads tarot and astrology together, written by AI, with the chart calculated by an ephemeris and the cards drawn by code before the AI writes a word. It has no live human readers and no advanced chart tools like progressions or transit grids.

If you want a technical astrology workbench, pick TimePassages or Time Nomad. If you want to talk to a person, pick Nebula or Sanctuary. If you want a daily horoscope and tarot card written for your own chart, that is what we built Soulether to do.

Questions people ask

Can I use an astrology app without my birth time?

Yes. The Sun, the planets and most Moon signs need only the date. The rising sign, the houses and a Moon that changed sign that day need the time and place, so treat those as guesses until you add them.

Why do two astrology apps show different rising signs?

Usually a birth time or time zone entered differently, or two different house systems. Check that both apps have the same time, the same place and, if they let you choose, the same house system.

Which astrology app is most accurate for birth charts?

The technical ones: TimePassages and Time Nomad show degrees, house systems and aspects you can check. Any serious app gets the positions right if your birth time and place are right; the input matters more than the app.

Is there a completely free astrology app?

Few apps are free all the way through; most free tiers stop at the daily horoscope and chart basics. For a full chart at no cost, a free birth chart calculator such as the one on this site covers it without a download.

Do astrology apps use AI?

Many do, and not all say where. Co-Star's listing says it pairs human astrologers with AI, and Soulether writes its readings with AI from a calculated chart. Our table marks AI only where an app's own listing states it.

Is Co-Star free?

Co-Star is free to download, and its listing puts the daily horoscope and friend compatibility in the free part. Questions, charts for people not on the app and love reports are paid.
