AI astrology: how an AI astrologer turns your chart into words

Updated October 17, 2026 · How we write these pages

The short answer

AI astrology works in two steps. First, an ephemeris calculates where the Sun, Moon and planets were when you were born and where they are today. Then a language model turns those positions into plain sentences. The math is precise. The interpretation is astrological tradition put into words, so read it as reflection rather than prediction.

Live example

Your sky, the way an AI astrologer reads it

Enter a birthday. The positions are worked out here in your browser, from the same ephemeris our readings use.

What astrology AI actually calculates

The part of astrology that is pure arithmetic is very old and very reliable: given a date, a time and a place, you can work out where every planet stood in the zodiac to a fraction of a degree. An ephemeris is the table, or today the formula, that does this. The example above runs one in your browser, the same one Soulether's member readings use, and it is free with no signup.

How much can be calculated depends on what you know about your birth. Many people only know the date, and that is enough for more than you might expect.

You knowWhat can be worked outWhat stays open
Birth date onlySun sign (unless you were born on a cusp day), the planets' signs, and the Moon sign on most daysThe Sun on cusp days, the Moon on the days it changed sign, rising sign, houses
Date and timeSun, Moon and planets exactlyRising sign and houses still need the place
Date, time and placeThe full chart: rising sign, midheaven, all twelve housesNothing, if the time is right to within a few minutes

What the AI astrologer adds, and what it should not do

A language model is good at writing and bad at arithmetic. Ask a general chatbot for your Moon sign and it may produce a confident answer that no ephemeris would give. A careful AI astrology app never lets the model calculate. Code works out the chart, then hands the model the result as plain facts, such as "Virgo Sun, Pisces Moon, Leo rising" and "the Moon is in Taurus today".

That is how Soulether's readings are built. Whatever name or voice an app gives its AI astrologer, two things should hold: it says it is AI, and it writes from calculated facts rather than from its own memory of the sky. Its job is the part that used to need a human astrologer, turning a list of placements into a few sentences that sound written for you. In a tarot reading it spends no more than a sentence on the chart, so the astrology sharpens the answer instead of burying it.

AI horoscope or sun sign column?

A newspaper horoscope is written for one twelfth of the population at once. The usual method is solar houses: the writer treats your Sun sign as the first house and counts round the zodiac, so when the Moon is in Taurus, a Leo column talks about career (Taurus is the tenth sign from Leo, and the tenth house is career). The example above does exactly that with today's real Moon, so you can see the technique.

A personal AI horoscope can go further because it knows more. With your whole chart it can note that today's Moon crosses your own Venus, or that a slow planet is pressing on your Sun, and write about that. The writing is AI; the sky it writes about is calculated. If an AI horoscope app cannot tell you which placements a line is based on, treat it like a sun sign column with better grammar.

What an AI birth chart reading should cover

An AI astrology reading of the birth chart is the long version: a portrait of the chart rather than a note about today. A good one, written by a person or by AI, works through the same layers in roughly the same order.

  • The big three: Sun for your core drive, Moon for your emotional needs, rising sign for how you meet the world.
  • The balance of elements and modes, which tells you whether a chart leans fiery, earthy, airy or watery, and whether it starts things, holds them or adapts.
  • The houses, which say where in life each planet's energy tends to play out.
  • The tightest aspects between planets, which carry most of a chart's tension and talent.
  • A plain statement of what is uncertain, such as a Moon near a sign change when the birth time is unknown.

What changes without a birth time

The rising sign moves through all twelve signs in a day, roughly one every two hours, so without a birth time no honest tool can name it, and the houses go with it. The Moon moves about thirteen degrees a day, so on roughly two birthdays in five it changes sign, and the time decides which. Everything slower, from Mercury out to Pluto, is almost always the same all day.

A careful AI astrologer says this out loud instead of filling the gap with a guess. If you do not know your time, a birth certificate, a hospital record or a parent's memory to the hour is worth chasing; until then, read the Sun, the planets and the Moon (where it is certain) and skip anything built on houses.

Choosing an AI astrology app

Most astrology apps now use some AI, often without saying where. Before you pick one, find out where the positions come from (an ephemeris or a published data source, not the model), whether it asks for your birth time and place, and what it does when you do not know your time. A good AI astrology app tells you when a placement is uncertain instead of hiding it.

Our comparison of popular astrology apps lists which ones say they use AI, which offer live human astrologers, and which focus on technical charts. If you only want your chart and not a subscription, the free birth chart on this site calculates the full chart with no signup.

Can you do astrology with ChatGPT?

You can, if you do the math somewhere else first. ChatGPT asked to find your Moon or rising sign is guessing, and its guesses are often wrong by a sign. Calculate the chart with an ephemeris, paste the positions in as fixed facts, and its interpretation becomes worth reading. Our ChatGPT astrology guide has a tool that writes that prompt for you.

Is AI astrology accurate?

Split the question in two. The positions can be exact, to a fraction of a degree, as long as code calculates them. The interpretation is tradition in new words, and calculation is not validation: controlled tests of astrology, such as the double-blind study physicist Shawn Carlson published in Nature in 1985, have not found that astrologers match charts to personalities better than chance. AI writes the tradition more fluently; it does not make it more true.

The limits of AI astrology

What astrology offers many people is a vocabulary for patterns in their own life, and a reason to stop and think about them. An AI astrologer makes that vocabulary fast and personal. Use it the way you would use a journal prompt, and never for medical, legal or money decisions.

Questions people ask

The positions can be exact, as long as they come from an ephemeris and not from the model's memory. The interpretation is tradition in new words, so it can be faithful to astrology, but not proven in a scientific sense.

For the Sun and most planets, no. For your rising sign and houses, yes, along with the place. Without a time, a careful reading says which placements are uncertain.

Not if it is built well. A general chatbot may guess your placements. An AI astrology app should calculate the chart in code and only use the model to write about the result.

A shortcut sun sign horoscopes use: your Sun sign counts as the first house, the next sign as the second, and so on round the zodiac. It needs no birth time.

The free birth chart and the example on this page are. Readings that an AI writes for you each day cost real computing time, so most apps, Soulether included, keep them for members.
