Arcana 14, Temperance, in the Destiny Matrix

By Nick Krüger · Updated October 24, 2026 · How we write these pages

The short answer

Arcana 14 in the Destiny Matrix is Temperance, the energy of the right measure: blending, calming and patience. In plus you soothe people and find the middle way others cannot. In minus you avoid extremes so carefully that you avoid life, and resentment builds quietly. A center of 14 is rare, about 1 in 234 charts.

The art of mixing: what is the 14 arcana?

On the Temperance tarot card an angel pours water from one cup into another, one foot on land and one in a stream. The water flows at an angle no water should, which is the point: Temperance does the impossible blend. In Ladini's matrix the 14 stands for balance, healing and patience, in the old sense of healing as making whole. It is the energy that combines opposites, calms a room and finds the dose that is just right.

People with a strong 14 are often peacemakers, carers, artists of mixing: cooks, mediators, therapists, designers who can blend styles nobody else would put together. They are calm to be around. The shadow is that calm can become avoidance. A 14 in minus keeps everything moderate, never too much and never too little, and in doing so avoids the risks that would make life full.

How rare is the 14 arcana destiny matrix energy?

At the center, very rare. Of 26,664 birth dates from 1940 to 2012, only 114 had a 14 at the center, 0.43 percent, about 1 in 234. It is at the karmic task for 1.4 percent and on the love point for 1.5 percent of people. As material karma it appears only for those born in 1940, the one year in that range whose digits add to 14.

In tails it is the rarest number that appears at all. Just two of the 26 karmic tails contain it, the 6-14-8 karmic tail and the 6-20-14 karmic tail, and only 1.6 percent of people, about 1 in 64, carry one of them. A 14 shows up most often lower on the chart's talent ray and on the diagonals of the family square.

Temperance, point by point

Since the month stops at 12, a 14 is never your higher self, the top corner. Everything else is possible.

Calling card (born on the 14th): calm, gentle and easy to trust; people feel soothed around you and tell you their problems.
Talent ray: a gift for mediating, blending, caring and creating harmony between people or materials.
Material karma: work in care, wellness, food, design or reconciliation; money flows when you keep a steady pace.
Karmic task: to find a real middle way instead of a safe one, and to stop swallowing resentment to keep the peace.
Center: a comfort zone of calm, routine and balance; the trap is a life so moderate it never quite starts.
Love point: a patient, steady partner and a relationship built on compromise that is honest on both sides.
Money point: steady income from careful, balanced work; it suffers from both overspending and fearful saving.
Purpose: to bring calm and balance to others, often through care, mediation or art.
Family lines: a family that kept the peace at any price, or a line of carers; a gift of patience, a habit of silence.
Year on the age ring: a quieter, restoring year, good for recovering balance and repairing relationships.

Balance versus avoidance

The difference is whether the calm is chosen or a way to hide.

In plus	In minus
Calms people and situations	Avoids conflict at any cost
Finds the middle way	Never commits to anything fully
Patient, steady, restoring	Stagnant, waiting for the right moment
Blends opposites creatively	Swallows feelings until they turn bitter

Finding the right measure

Temperance is about the right amount, which sometimes means a lot. Once in a while, go all the way: a long trip, an honest argument, a bold color. Say what bothers you while it is still small. Keep the practices that genuinely restore you, like time in water, gentle movement, cooking and slow mornings, and notice when they have become a way to avoid something. The 14 thrives when its calm makes room for life instead of keeping it out.

Example chart: a calling card of 14

Someone born on 14 May 1969 has a calling card of 14, a higher self of 5, material karma of 7 and a karmic task of 8. The center is 7 and the tail is the 15-5-8 karmic tail. A soothing face on top of a driven Chariot core often belongs to someone people find calm until they see how much gets done. Questions people ask

The tradition calls it a healing energy in the sense of calming, restoring and making whole. Many people with a strong 14 work in care or support. It is not a substitute for medical treatment.

The center is the reduced sum of the four corners, and most combinations of day, month and year land between 5 and 11. Very few reach exactly 14, so only about 1 in 234 charts has it there.

A steady, patient partner and a relationship that works through real compromise. In minus it becomes a quiet relationship where nobody says what they want, so honesty keeps the balance true.
