Arcana 16, the Tower, in the Destiny Matrix

By Nick Krüger · Updated October 31, 2026 · How we write these pages

The short answer

Arcana 16 in the Destiny Matrix is the Tower, the energy of the breakthrough: what is false falls so that what is true can be built. In plus you rebuild without fear. In minus the same crisis keeps returning, because you hold on until life breaks things for you. It is the rarest center of all.

What does the 16 arcana stand for?

The Tower tarot card is the most dramatic image in the deck: a tall tower struck by lightning, its crown blown off, two figures falling. It looks like catastrophe. Read in Ladini's tradition, it is about what was built wrong. A structure resting on pride, illusion or someone else's plan cannot stand forever, and the Tower is the moment it falls, which is also the first moment something honest can be built on the same ground.

Its keywords are breakthrough, upheaval and rebuilding. A person with a strong 16 has usually rebuilt something from nothing at least once, and is not afraid to do it again. They are builders, restorers, founders, people who thrive on big projects and real change. In minus, they live from crisis to crisis, often holding on to a broken situation so long that it can only end with a crash.

The rarest center: the 16 arcana destiny matrix in numbers

Of the energies that can sit at the center at all, the Tower is the rarest. In all 26,664 birth dates from 1940 to 2012, only 47 charts had a 16 there, 0.18 percent, about 1 in 567. Elsewhere it is far more common. It is on the money point for 5 percent of people, it is the material karma of everyone born in 1942, 1951 and 1960, and it sits at the karmic task for 1.9 percent.

Two of the 26 karmic tails contain it: the 12-16-4 karmic tail, where control is the old protection to be replaced by trust, and the 21-10-16 karmic tail, about knowledge that was never passed on. About 1 in 12 people carry one of them.

Rebuilding versus collapse

The canon, set side by side.

Theme	In plus	In minus
Change	Breaks through what is false	Crisis after crisis
Building	Builds from the ground up	Builds on pride or illusion
Attitude	Not afraid to start again	Holds on until it breaks
Ego	Humble about what fell	Too proud to admit the cracks

Where the Tower stands in your chart

The 16 can never be your higher self, since the month only goes to 12, but it can sit anywhere else. Here is what readers make of it.

Calling card and talent ray

Born on the 16th, you come across as strong, direct and a little intimidating, someone who says what others will not. On the talent ray, the 16 is a gift for building, restructuring and large scale projects, including architecture, engineering, construction and turnarounds.

Material karma and money point

Money through building, renovating and big projects, and through starting over. The lesson is to build on honest foundations, because shortcuts in business tend to collapse for this placement.

Karmic task and center

At the bottom corner, the 16 asks you to let go of pride and rebuild your life on what is true for you. At the center, very rare, it is a comfort zone of intensity and big change, where calm feels suspicious.

Love point

A relationship that changes both people at the root, or a love that starts after something else has fallen apart. Honesty early saves a crash later.

Purpose, family lines and the year

In a purpose, the Tower asks you to build something new and solid, often after breaking with old ways. On a family line, it can mean ancestors who lost everything and rebuilt, and the strength that came with it. As a year on the age ring, it is a year when something false comes down, and the time to rebuild well.

Building on rock

The Tower in plus is chosen change. A few habits help.

Check your foundations regularly: is this job, plan or relationship built on something true?
Make small changes early so that big ones are not forced on you later.
Admit mistakes quickly. Pride is the crack the lightning finds.
After a fall, rebuild deliberately. Write down what the old structure taught you before you start the new one.

An example with a calling card of 16

Someone born on 16 June 1992 has a calling card of 16, a higher self of 6, material karma of 21 and a karmic task of 7. The center is 5 and the tail is the 12-19-7 karmic tail. A direct, intense first impression over a steady Hierophant center often belongs to someone who looks radical and turns out to have firm values underneath. Questions people ask

No. The matrix describes energies, not events. The Tower points to a pattern of breakthroughs and rebuilding. Lived in plus, change is chosen and gradual; in minus it tends to arrive as a crisis.

A year when something that no longer fits comes down, and the time to rebuild on firmer ground. It is often remembered later as a turning point rather than a loss.

Among people born between 1940 and 2012, those born in 1942, 1951 and 1960, whose year digits add to 16. For them work and money are themes of building, restructuring and starting again.
