Why is the Fool the 22 arcana and not 0?
Most tarot decks number the Fool 0. The matrix cannot, because every number on the chart comes from adding, and nothing adds to zero. So the Fool takes the last place, 22. Read that way, the Fool is not the beginning before anything happens but the freedom that comes after the World is complete: a new circle starting from the end of the old one. That is why the 22 sits next to both the 21 and the 1.
