The short answer

Arcana 18 in the Destiny Matrix is the Moon, the energy of the deep: dreams, imagination and the fears that live in the dark. In plus you have rare intuition and a vivid creative mind. In minus you face anxiety, illusions and worries that grow at night. Six of the 26 karmic tails contain an 18.

The Moon's territory: what the 18 arcana covers

The Moon tarot card is a night scene. A moon with a face hangs over a path that runs between two towers, a dog and a wolf howl at it, and a crayfish climbs out of a pool. Nothing is quite clear. In the matrix, the 18 holds that whole landscape: intuition, dreams and the unconscious, everything that is real but not seen in daylight.

A strong Moon gives a person deep imagination, sensitivity to atmosphere and strong intuition, often expressed in art, music, film, psychology or anything that works with symbols. The same sensitivity, unmanaged, turns into worry. Fears grow in the dark, small doubts become stories, and it gets hard to tell what is felt from what is feared.

Intuition in plus, anxiety in minus

The Moon's two sides are very close together, which is why it needs care.

In plus	In minus
Rare intuition	Anxiety and worst case thinking
A rich creative imagination	Illusions and self deception
Reads moods and hidden motives	Suspicion without evidence
Works well with dreams and symbols	Fears that grow at night

What does the 18 arcana destiny matrix energy mean in each position?

The 18 is never the higher self, since the month stops at 12. It is often found inside the chart and on the bottom ray.

Calling card (born on the 18th): mysterious, sensitive, hard to read; people are intrigued and project their own ideas onto you.
Talent ray: imagination, intuition and creative work with images, music, film, scent or dreams.
Material karma (born in 1944, 1953, 1962, 1971 or 1980): money through creative or intuitive work; avoid unclear deals and anything you cannot see the bottom of.
Karmic task: to face your fears in daylight, separate intuition from anxiety and trust your inner sight.
Center: very rare, about 1 in 321; a comfort zone of dreams, solitude and inner worlds, with a risk of escaping into them.
Love point: a mysterious, sensitive partner and a relationship where honesty is needed to dispel illusions.
Money point: income through creative and intuitive fields; 5.6 percent of charts have it here. Keep finances transparent.
Purpose: to bring hidden things to light, in art, therapy or research.
Family lines: family secrets, unspoken fears or a strong intuitive streak in one of the lines.
Year on the age ring: a year of strong dreams and uncertainty, best for creative work, slow decisions and checking facts.

The six tails with a Moon

The 18 appears in six of the 26 tails, and in four of them it starts the tail at the inner point: the 18-3-12 karmic tail, the 18-6-6 karmic tail, the 18-6-15 karmic tail and the 18-9-9 karmic tail. It is the middle number of the 9-18-9 karmic tail and the outer number of the 9-9-18 karmic tail. Many of these involve magic or hidden knowledge in the community's old names, which the tradition reads as the Moon's intuitive power, used well or badly in the past.

Over every birth date from 1940 to 2012, 23.5 percent of people, nearly 1 in 4, carry one of these tails. The 18 is the inner tail point for 20.9 percent of all charts.

Working with the Moon

Write your fears down. On paper they shrink back to their real size. Check a worry against facts before you act on it. Keep a dream journal or a sketchbook, because the Moon's material wants an outlet and turns into anxiety without one. Protect your sleep and your evenings, since this energy is strongest at night. And when your intuition speaks, test it: note the hunch, then see what happens.

A chart full of the Moon

Someone born on 18 September 1985 has a calling card of 18, a higher self of 9, material karma of 5 and a karmic task of 5. The center is 10 and the tail is the 15-20-5 karmic tail. In this chart the 18 also lands on both the love point and the money point, so the Moon colors first impressions, partners and income alike. Neighbors: arcana 17 and arcana 19.

Questions people ask

It describes sensitivity that can turn into anxiety when it has no outlet. It is not a diagnosis. Many people with a strong Moon are simply intuitive and imaginative, and channel it into creative work.

You come across as mysterious and hard to read. People are drawn in and often imagine things about you that are not true, so being clear about who you are helps the first impression land well.

The inner tail point is always a multiple of 3, and 18 is one of the commonest values there, at about 1 in 5 charts. Four of the 26 tails begin with it.
