What is a karmic tail?

In the Destiny Matrix, the bottom of the chart is the zone of karma: lessons left over from before, in whatever sense you take that. The bottom ray runs from the bottom corner D up toward the center, with two points along it, R and J. Read from the center outward, J, R and D form your karmic tail. Schools that grew out of Ladini's method give each of the possible tails a name, often called a program, and a theme: a habit or fear that keeps repeating until you notice it.

The idea is not punishment. A tail describes the pattern you are most likely to fall into, so you can catch it early. The bottom corner D, the last number of the tail, is also called your karmic task, the thing this life asks you to finish.

How to calculate your karmic tail by hand

You need four numbers from your birth date first. Whenever a sum is above 22, add its digits together.

1. 1.A: your day of birth, reduced if above 22.
2. 2.B: your month, 1 to 12.
3. 3.C: the digits of your year added together, reduced if above 22.
4. 4.D = A + B + C, and the center E = A + B + C + D.
5. 5.J = D + E, the inner point of the tail.
6. 6.R = D + J, the middle point.
7. 7.Write it inner to outer: J-R-D.

A worked example, and how to find your karmic tail fast

For 14 March 1992: A = 14, B = 3, C = 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21. D = 14 + 3 + 21 = 38, which reduces to 11. E = 14 + 3 + 21 + 11 = 49, which reduces to 13. Then J = 11 + 13 = 24, reduced to 6, and R = 11 + 6 = 17. The tail is 6-17-11, the buried talent.

Why there are only 26 karmic tails

Three numbers from 1 to 22 could in principle make thousands of combinations, yet every birth date lands on one of just 26. The reason is the arithmetic. Adding digits keeps a number's remainder after dividing by 9, so every point is tied to the others: the first number of a tail, J, always works out to a multiple of 3. It is 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 or 21, and each of those allows only a handful of middle and outer numbers.

We counted every birth date from 1940 to 2012. The commonest tail, 15-20-5, the rebel, belongs to about 1 in 10 people. The rarest, 6-14-8, the dictator, belongs to about 1 in 567.

What is my karmic tail telling me?

Read the tail as one story first, then by position. The outer number D is the anchor: the karmic task, the quality this life is built to develop. The middle number R is the story of how the pattern formed. The inner number J touches the center of the chart and is also the start of the love line, which is one reason a tail so often shows up first in relationships.

Then look at each number as an energy in its minus and its plus. In 6-17-11, the 6 is the Lovers, the 17 the Star and the 11 Strength: a talent (the Star) kept hidden to keep the peace in love (the Lovers), and a task of finding the strength (Strength) to be seen. Working with your tail instead of fearing it

Some names sound heavy, and they are meant as patterns, not verdicts. Nobody is a dictator or a jailer because of a birth date. A practical way in is to ask three questions: where does this theme already show up in my life, what does it cost me, and what would the opposite habit look like this week. The tail is also only one zone; it sits in a chart with talents, a portrait and a purpose that pull in other directions.
