November zodiac sign: Scorpio, then Sagittarius

November: from the depths to the horizon

November begins in the deepest water of the zodiac and ends in its most restless fire. Scorpio, which holds three weeks of it, is intense, private, loyal and perceptive, a sign that wants to understand what lies under the surface. Sagittarius, which takes over around Thanksgiving, is open, honest, optimistic and restless, a sign that wants to see what lies over the horizon.

The contrast is classic astrology. Scorpio goes deep, Sagittarius goes far. Both are searching for truth, one by digging and the other by traveling.

November dates and their signs

Election Day, the Tuesday after the first Monday of November, and Veterans Day on November 11 fall in Scorpio every year. Thanksgiving, the fourth Thursday, runs from November 22 to 28 and lands in Sagittarius in most years, a happy match for the sign astrology links with feasts, gratitude and big gatherings. November has two birthstones, topaz and citrine, both golden, the color tradition gives to Jupiter's sign.

November zodiac signs, day by day

On the US Eastern clock, November 1 to 20 is always Scorpio and November 23 onward is always Sagittarius. In between is the change: from 1970 to 2035 the Sun entered Sagittarius on November 22 in 44 of the 66 years and November 21 in 22. On the change day itself, a birth before the moment in the year table below is Scorpio and a birth after it is Sagittarius.

When Sagittarius begins each year, in Eastern time

The Sun's entry into Sagittarius slides about six hours later each year and jumps back after a leap day. The next two are November 22, 2026 at 2:20 am Eastern, then November 22, 2027 at 8:10 am Eastern. Times are good to within 15 minutes. For Central time take one hour off, for Mountain two and for Pacific three, which can move the change to the day before; the sign page lists the same moments in UTC.

The Scorpio and Sagittarius cusp

Astrologers sometimes call November 18 to 24 the cusp of revolution, but there is no blended sign. The Sun is in one or the other at the moment of birth, and the year table above gives that moment for every year from 1970 to 2035. People born near the change who feel like both are usually describing other planets: Mercury and Venus often sit in the neighboring sign for these births.

November Scorpios are in the second and third decans, ruled by the Sun and Venus in the Chaldean order. November Sagittarians are in the first decan, ruled by Mercury, which tradition reads as the most talkative and curious archer.
